Is 'Genius' too strong to describe your muscles?
Genius Tip #506
Unexpected brilliance sitting on your chair?
There is power in numbers. And there is feeling in numbers: Your body has 630 muscles and 400 of them are responsible for moving all the parts of your skeleton. No scientist would doubt these numbers; anatomy has proven them for more than 400 years.
So what?
These numbers take on a profound meaning only if we dare to have a closer look:
- How leg muscles are attached to the bones through ligaments in very specific angles to make walking and running possible
- How a number of sophisticated short feet muscles are extremely well coordinated to balance your body on a small contact surface.
- How 6 muscles in both eyes work in precise synergy to make reading and rapid picture decoding possible.
- How the tiniest muscles of 1.2 mm length in your middle ear strongly impact the quality of your hearing.
- How muscles, nerves and senses are in constant rapid communication.
- How muscle fibers have no cell membranes as limitations; every nucleus has a fluid sphere of influence.
I LOVE my muscles and feel deeply thankful for these (and more) amazing tasks they do every day with ease and joy, free of pain. For decades I have been taking them for granted, especially throughout my most competitive athletic years. Slowly I broke the barrier of body ignorance and came to my senses: Now I treat them well with stretching, yoga, massages, daily gentle walking or running, intentional strength training, drinking plenty of clean water and eating healthy food.
