The most recent TIME magazine SPECIAL has the title "The Future of Education - So Many Challenges. So Much at Stake". Yesterday I picked up a copy and immediately started to read a fascinating controversial article by Dr. Nicholas Kardaras:
Ditch the Devices -
Why screens in schools are a multi-billion-dollar hoax
He points out that over 200 peer-reviewed research papers correlate screen time with increased ADHD, screen addiction, increased aggression, depression, anxiety and even psychosis.
On the other side, he looks to Finland where schools routinely top global rankings. The country has avoided incorporating technology and standardized testing in its schools.
Finally, a 2011 study found that students don't prefer e-learning over more traditional lessons, instead enjoying the benefits of human interaction in classrooms.
Students crave human interaction with real teachers, now more than ever.
ONE international tool has been a rising star in this situation that has emotional healing power in classrooms and homes alike:
PLAY
That means simple interactive games that encourage physical movement, interrupt hours of sitting and build trust. It is the language that every child is born with and understands immediately.
Running, jumping, throwing and catching a ball, or simple playful body movements like standing on one leg for a minute. Do you see the opportunity for a fun competition?
Or let it be a 'weird' movement that looks different, is highly memorable and has a profound impact on the nervous system.
Give this fun movement a try -
Enjoy the Ear Unfolder
